Editing and Proofreading

We edit/proofread manuscripts to a very high standard, using skilled human editors, and all of our work is covered by our unique quality guarantee: if you spot any errors we've missed after editing, we will amend it completely free of charge - of course, we're hoping you won't need to.

We carry out TWO editing/proofreading passes on every instruction, and you will receive two versions of your manuscript upon completion, to review our changes: one includes all of our changes, tracked in the markup, which you can accept or reject individually; the other has all changes already accepted, for your convenience.

You will also receive our Completion of Work Report, which advises you what to do next, and how to get your FREE TYPESETTING, which is included with every editing and proofreading instruction.

We can edit your memoir in either British or American English. If it is written in another language, we can also help you to translate it prior to editing.

Which service will I need?

Before instructing this service, we will need to carry out our Editorial Appraisal of your manuscript, before advising of our recommendations. Just go ahead and submit it using the Get Started enquiry form, and we'll return our proposed quotation, free of charge, with no obligation or expectation whatsoever. Please note that we can only accept digital files and not paper manuscripts.

Proofreading/Line-Editing

A line-by-line proofreading service, which ensures your grammar and punctuation are published in their best condition.

Where entirely necessary we may delete or rewrite occasional lines of text, but this will be done very minimally, and only in order to be grammatically or creatively coherent. We will also add or omit scene and paragraph breaks where they are incorrectly used.

The cost of our proofreading service is currently £5.95 per <1000 words.

Copy-Editing

A more interactive editing service, for manuscripts which require a little extra work, perhaps structurally or creatively.

Whilst we do not generally rewrite content unless specifically necessary for grammatical accuracy, we may intervene where we consider there to be inconsistencies or incredibility. We may also make slight changes to the book's chapter structure or format, for dramatic emphasis, narrative pacing and consistency.

The cost of our copy-editing service is currently £8.95 per <1000 words.

Translation

If your memoir is written in a language other than English, we will happily translate it into English so that we can edit it for you. Please note that we will use A.I. translation software to do this, and it will be necessary for you to confirm your acceptance of the translated document before we can proceed with editing work.

Please note that there may be a small charge for the A.I. translation. Please also note that we are unable to translate the post-edited manuscript back into its original language.

Images, tables and other elements

We will happily work on books containing images, illustrations, tables, footnotes/endnotes, index and other appendices, and your instruction will still include free typesetting.

However, please note that there may be a small surcharge per element, and/or the copy-editing rate may be applied to your instruction where appropriate.
